Abhishek Sharma (Sharma Abhishek) S Abhishek is a professional Indian Cricketer. He represents the Indian Cricket team at the international stage. He represents the Indian state of Punjab in domestic
Cricket tournaments of India. He also plays the IPL – the Indian Premier League where he currently represents the Sunrises Hyderabad owned by Kavya Maran. He is a left handed opening batter. He also bowls as left arm slow orthodox spin bowler.
2025
had been the luckiest year for him as he scored some classical innings and
clinched the Number one ranking in the ICC Men’s T20 International Batters
rankings. Along with, he also has
secured the highest rating points in the ICC T20I rankings in the format’s

Initial Days
Abhishek
Sharma was born on 4th September, 2000 in Amritsar, the Indian
Punjab to his parents. His parents name are Raj Kumar and Manju Sharma.
Abhishek Sharma has two siblings as sisters and their names are Dr. Komal
Sharma and Parineeti Sharma and both are elders to her. Dr. Komal Sharma is a
qualified and well-known physiotherapist.
He
did his school years from Amritsar where he studies at and attended the Delhi
Public School. There, he maintained a cordial friendly relationship with
Shubman Gill who would also become a professional Cricketer and part of the
Indian Men’s Cricket team. They (Sharma and Shubman Gill) used to open for Punjab
Under-14 Cricket team. During the COVID-19 lockdown times, the former Indian
Cricketing Star and part of the winning Indian team of the 2000, 2002 ICC
Champions Trophy, the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Yuvraj Singh played crucial
role in developing Sharma’s game which he acknowledges till now.
Domestic
Sharma
got attention of all in his very first match that he played for the Punjab
Under-16 Cricket team in 2015-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy. He scored century in
his very first game. The 2015-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy proved to be so lucky
and crucial for him. During the 2015-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy he scored 1200 runs
at an average of 109. In the same year (2016), Sharma made his U-19 debut representing
his native team of the Punjab in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy.
Considering
these impressive and impactful performances, Sharma was made captain of the
Indian Cricket team for the 2016 ACC U-19 Asia Cricket Cup which was played in Sri
Lanka. He was announced as captain too where he led his team to the victory and
also secured the man of the match award in the final of the 2016 ACC U-19 Asia
Cricket Cup.
Later
on, during the 2018 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup Abhishek Sharma also played
crucial role in India’s triumph.
First-Class Cricket Debut Career
On 6th
October, 2017, Sharma made his debut in first class Cricket representing his
native Punjab side in the 2017-18 season of the Indian premier first class
Cricket tournament Ranji Trophy.
List A Debut Career
Later
on, he represented the Punjab Cricket team in the 2018-19 season of
Vijay-Hazare and made his List A One-Day Cricket debut. He also clinched record
of the fastest hundred by an Indian batter in List A Cricket on 28th
February, 2021. He achieved the record
playing for Punjab against Madhya Pradesh where he scored the century facing
just 42 balls.
IPL (Franchise Career)
During
the 2018 IPL Auction, Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals) bought Abhishek
Sharma for the first time for 5.5 million INR. In May, 2018 he made his debut
for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL scoring 46 runs in just 19 balls.
In 2019, Sunrises Hyderabad traded Abhishek Sharma with Delhi Daredevils. In the 2024 IPL, Abhishek scored fastest fifty for SRH agaisnt Mumbai Indians at their himeground of Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad. Playing 16 matches in the season, he finished off scoring 484 runs with the strike rate of 200. After the Australian Star Travis Head who was also played for Hyderabad, Abhishek was the 2nd highest run scorer for his team. He also grabbed most sixes hitting award in the tournament for scoring 42 sixes during the 2024 IPL season.
2025 IPL Season
During the 2025 IPL season, Sharma scored his first maiden IPL century in just 40 balls against the Punjab Kings. He scored 141 runs facing just 55 balls and as of the date (March, 2026) it is the highest score by any Indian batter in the IPL. It is also the third highest score in the IPL league leaving Abhishek just Brendon McCullum (158*) and Chris Gayle (175*). It also became the fifth fastest hundred of the league's history. It is also the fastest hundred by an SRG batter so far (March, 2026)
